Specialized in Latin dance styles, like Salsa, Bachata, and Cumbia. Director of the only Colombian-style Salsa company on the West Coast, Fuego y Sabor Latino. With dual bachelor’s degrees in Dance and Biology from UCLA, I combine a grounded understanding of kinesiology with professional dance practices, ranging from jazz and ballet to hip-hop and salsa.

Maria Diaz is a professional dancer, choreographer, instructor, and youth educator in Los Angeles and beyond with more than 10 years of experience. As a proud graduate of UCLA, Maria utilizes both of her bachelor’s degrees in Dance and Biology to blend art and science in everything she does. Maria is currently a co-director and instructor for Fuego y Sabor Latino, as well as an instructor at UCLA and at high schools in South Central, working with underserved youth and families to ensure all communities have access to dance. Prior to that, Maria was a co-director and led various dance companies, including Son Merekumbé. A native of Bogotá, Maria is trained in multiple dance forms (including Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Cumbia, and Samba), and is the director of the only dance company specializing in Colombian Salsa on the West Coast, Fuego y Sabor Latino.

Skills Summary: Maria has performed alongside artists like Don Omar, Zion y Lennox, at major events like Calibash LA and Las Vegas and she has also toured with Colombian Carnaval artist Checo Acosta. Within the salsa world, Maria has collaborated with artists like Integration Casanova, Sonora Carruseles, Orchestra Identidad, Wilson "saoco" Manyoma of Fruko y sus Tesos, Rey Reyes, Charlie Cardona, Javier Vasquez, and Christian Fernandez, former lead singer of the Grupo Gale. Along with her co-directors, Maria has performed and competed in several world congresses and championships, such as the LA Salsa Fest in Los Angeles, Las Vegas Salsa Congress, San Francisco Salsa Congress, and World Latin Dance Cup in Miami, among others. Maria is also active in the Los Angeles scene, often performing in locations such as The Granada LA, Stevens Steak House, Sevillas nighclubs, Beverly Hills Salsa, Florentine Gardens in Hollywood, Quiet Cannon, and many more.
